DR WON'S ROOMS

Dr Won‘s Rooms – A Specialist Medical Fitout in the heart of Brisbane

Wickham Terrace, Brisbane City.

Architect: Quod Architecture.

Category: Specialist Medical Fit out Brisbane

This project included the complete strip out of the existing tenancy and rebuild to create a fresh new consulting space for two Surgical Practitioners. It was a tenancy that comprised of two consult rooms, a patient waiting area, reception and staff kitchen. The new build incorporated custom joinery with high level finishes; including brass trims, feature panelling, complete Corian reception counter, Corian desks to consult rooms, custom upholstery seating, custom made timber doors and custom-made brass fittings.

Wickham Terrace is renowned for its specialist medical rooms, with many of the city's doctors, dentists, psychologists working in the precinct. The quality of the medical fitouts in the area are some of the best in Brisbane and when we viewed the plans from Quod Architecture, it was clear that Giova Fellows design would be of a calibre to rival the best.

"I can wholeheartedly recommend Ben Dalglish and Steadfast Projects. The quality of the work is exceptional and I couldn’t be happier with the end result. Ben was professional, easily contactable, well informed of all developments at all times, and an excellent communicator with both myself and the architect”.

Dr Won's Rooms was a highly specified medical fitout with high level finishes and design quality – exactly the type of work that Steadfast loves to produce.

Throughout the build we worked closely with Giova, ensuring that the architects collaborative vision with our client was realised in the end product.

And the result? A stunning medical fitout that is not only highly functional in its design but also warm and welcoming for potential patients entering the space.

HIGHLIGHTS

The ultra modern medical fitout design was complimented by the old worldly feel of subtle brass detail, and the clients medical artwork – vintage anatomical drawings from early last century.

The Corian Reception Desk epitomised the 'new', with the sleek seamless surface making an elegant and modern impression on first entry to the rooms, while the custom upholstery and the brass detail, including custom brass magazine holders provide the level of design excellence and care that is a signature of this medical fitout.

Working to the unique and varied specifications of the project would have been a challenge for any architect but Giova's expertise with angles and design came to the fore, providing a harmonious flow to the space.

Feature Panelling gives the overall look of the rooms a bold opulence that is a talking point of this standout medical fitout.

Steadfast Projects installed 3 custom made doors that were designed to specifically compliment the rooms. The black timber veneer doors were inset with glass inserts with vinyl frosting. which had a rounded edge to echo the curves of the Corian reception desk and bulk head.

How to make a building site not like a 'building site'…

The other major challenge was to ensure that there was as minimal disruption as possible to other working doctors and healthcare professionals in the building.

Steadfast Projects prides themselves on the fact that when they are doing a build or carrying out a project they don't treat the space like a typical 'building site'. Especially when working on a custom medical fitout, it is often the case that other medical professionals are still working in nearby rooms and are seeing patients, at what can be a critical and vulnerable time for them.

Top challenges that arose during the medical fitout:

Plumbing: originally drainage was to go straight down through the floor below but we discovered that it would have to run above floor level around the edge of the tenancy to meet the drainage riser. This meant altering joinery and shortening the depth of the draws and cupboards to put pipes behind them in order get them to where they needed to go. All in all there was little compromise in draw space and design intent to achieve the required result.

"Our early meetings to discuss the project were professional and business like. The quote was exceptionally thorough, well explained and clarified all the small details.

The project ran exactly to schedule, unexpected findings along the way were notified early, and problem solved efficiently and sensibly. There were very few variations, and all were easily justifiable.

The workers & contractors were affable, tidy and I had no complaints at all from our neighbours or Building Manager from the high-rise commercial building we inhabit. The quality of the work is exceptional. I will happily continue to recommend Ben and his company to all friends, family and colleagues."
